Privacy policy

Effective 10 October 2026

Hauskin is a household ledger: it holds what your family earns, spends and owes. That is some of the most private information a family has, so this page says plainly what we collect, why, who else handles it, and how you take it away or delete it.

Who we are

Hauskin is run by ARYASTRA, in India. ARYASTRA is responsible for your personal data under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (as the “Data Fiduciary”) and, for people in the European Union or the United Kingdom, under the GDPR (as the “controller”).

For anything about your data, including complaints, write to hello@myhauskin.com.

What we collect

Your account: your email address and a password. The password is stored only as a one-way hash; nobody, including us, can read it.

What you record: entries (amounts, dates, categories, merchants, notes), accounts (names, and the last four digits of a card if you add them), the people in your household and any household staff (names, roles, wages, advances), recurring bills, loans and money owed, and the backups you take inside the app. You choose what to enter; none of it is required beyond what makes an entry.

Technical data: our hosting providers record IP addresses and browser details in short-lived server logs, which is how any website works. Cookies keep you signed in and remember your Light/Dark choice; a few small settings (such as notes you have dismissed) are kept only on your device.

What we never collect: bank or card passwords, full card numbers, your SMS messages or your email inbox. There are no ads, no analytics or tracking tools, and we do not sell or rent your data to anyone.

Why we use it

Only to run Hauskin for you: to sign you in, show your household its ledger, run your recurring entries, and keep the service secure. You give us the data to do exactly that when you create an account and use the app; you can withdraw that consent at any time by deleting your account. We do not use your ledger for advertising, profiling or training AI models, and we do not send it to any service other than those listed below.

Who can see it

Your household. Everyone who joins your household with its invite code sees all of its entries, accounts and people. Share the code only with people you want to see everything.

Us. We can technically reach the database that runs the service. We look at a household’s data only when it is needed to keep the service working or secure, when you ask us to help, or when the law requires it.

Our service providers, who process data on our behalf and only to provide their service:

  • Supabase — the database and sign-in. Data is stored in its Mumbai, India region.
  • Vercel — hosts the app. Its servers in Mumbai run the app; its global network may serve pages from a location near you.
  • Brevo — sends the emails for signing in and resetting a password, so it receives your email address. Nothing from your ledger is ever in them.
  • Zoho Mail — hosts our mailbox, so it holds whatever you write to hello@myhauskin.com.

Supabase and Vercel are based in the United States, Brevo in France and Zoho in India. Where data leaves India or the EU, each protects it under its own data processing terms, including the EU’s Standard Contractual Clauses where they apply.

We will disclose data to authorities only when the law requires us to.

How long we keep it

For as long as you have an account. Deleting your account removes your sign-in at once. If you are the last member of your household, the household and everything recorded in it are deleted too; if others remain, the household stays with them. The backups you take inside the app are deleted with the household. Copies in our providers’ routine backups and logs expire on their own schedule, within a few weeks.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can:

  • Get a copy of your household’s data at any time: Setup → Backups → Download, as a spreadsheet or as one complete file. Free, always.
  • Correct it — every entry, account and person can be edited in the app.
  • Delete it — Setup → Delete my account, or Delete this household.
  • Ask us about what we hold, object to how it is used, or name someone to act for you (a right under India’s DPDP Act), by writing to hello@myhauskin.com. We reply within 30 days.
  • Complain to a regulator: in India, the Data Protection Board of India, once you have raised it with us; in the EU or UK, your local data protection authority.

Children

You must be 18 or over to create an account. A household may record spending on its children, such as school fees under a child’s name; the adult who records it is responsible for doing so.

Security

Everything travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). The database enforces, on every request, that a person can read and change only their own household’s data. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach ever affects your data, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

Changes

When this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date. If a change matters to how your data is used, we will also say so in the app before it takes effect.
